Gresford Athletic end their 2024/25 campaign with a draw

The points were split between Gresford Athletic and Denbigh Town on the final day of the 2024/25 JD Cymru North season on Saturday.

The game started with both sides matching each other, but it was almost the opener for The Colliers in the 12th minute when Alex Smith put in a good cross towards Toby Gallagher-Keenan, but it was unable to reach his head.

Then, in the 16th minute, Paul Johnson's headed shot went just over the crossbar.

Tom Smith and Charlie Mann played some good football in the 18th minute, working the ball well, but the resulting effort was off-target.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute, as Charlie Mann played a fantastic cross for Haci Ozlu to head the ball into the back of the net and put Gresford Athletic in the lead.

HALF-TIME | Gresford Athletic 1-0 Denbigh Town

The second half began with First Team Manager Eddie Maurice-Jones being shown two yellow cards in quick succession, resulting in a sending off in the 52nd minute.

However, just two minutes later, Charlie Mann added a second goal for Gresford Athletic, tapping it in from close range following a spillage from Denbigh Town goalkeeper Elijah Beattie.

Tom Smith almost found a third goal for The Colliers, but his effort hit the post.

In the 58th minute, Denbigh Town managed to pull a goal back, with Nathan Brown smashing the ball into the back of the net.

Then, in a matter of minutes, Denbigh Town found an equaliser, as Owen Davies' 60th-minute strike from the edge of the area flew past Lewis Dutton.

Gresford Athletic did not lie down, though, and in the 63rd minute, a well-worked corner routine from Charlie Mann and Charley Edge led to Elliott Orton having a chance on goal, but his shot was saved by Denbigh Town's Elijah Beattie.

Haci Ozlu then put The Colliers back in front with 68 minutes on the clock, dribbling with the ball superbly and then curling the ball into the top corner.

Denbigh Town started to turn the screw some more and in the 84th minute, a handball from Paul Johnson conceded a penalty. However, Lewis Dutton stepped up and saved the spot-kick from Nathan Brown.

There was almost a fourth goal for Gresford Athletic in the 85th minute, as Haci Ozlu ran through on goal, but his looping effort dinked the crossbar.

Then, in the 87th minute, Charley Edge was the hero as he headed the ball off the line from Iwan Roberts' effort.

However, after waves of attacks, Denbigh Town finally found another equaliser through Alfie Vaughan in the 92nd minute, deep into stoppage time.

Just before the final whistle, Haci Ozlu had another opportunity to grab his hat-trick, but his effort flew just over the goal in the 95th minute.

Gresford Athletic end their 2024/25 JD Cymru North campaign in 11th place after a good surge of form during the second half of the season spurred them to a comfortable survival from relegation.
