Gresford Athletic earn their first victory of the league campaign with an away victory against Penrhyncoch on matchday four of the 2024/25 JD Cymru North.

The game started competitively, with both sides battling well for the first 20 minutes.

However, it was Penrhyncoch who struck first blood, taking the lead through Cameron Allen from a corner on 25 minutes.

Haci Ozlu was quick to respond, looking for an equaliser in the 26th minute with a decent effort, but Penrhyncoch goalkeeper Leigh Jenkins tipped it over the crossbar.

Then, in the 30th minute, Penrhyncoch unfortunately found their second goal of the game, with Cameron Allen netting a brace.

In the 33rd minute though, Gresford Athletic did manage to pull one back through Adam Hesp, whose header found its way into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

The Colliers did well to level the scoreline in the 40th minute, with Charlie Mann finding Haci Ozlu to put it away for Gresford Athletic’s second goal of the game.

Then, just before half time, Charley Edge put Gresford Athletic ahead with a header at the back post from Charley Mann's cross in the 45th minute.

The half time whistle blew and Gresford Athletic had a right to be happy with the character shown to come back from 2-0 down.

The second half began and Penrhyncoch looked to apply pressure on the Gresford Athletic defence early on, forcing a clearance off the line for The Colliers to keep hold of the lead in the 55th minute.

Then, in the 57th minute, Lewis Dutton pulled off a great save to deny a decent Penrhyncoch effort, retaining the 3-2 scoreline.

Gresford Athletic then found a fourth, with Charlie Mann earning a well deserved goal to create a two-goal advantage in the 69th minute, with Charley Edge grabbing the assist.

The game remained competitive, but Gresford Athletic did well and maintained the lead throughout the remaining 20 minutes of the game.

Gresford Athletic celebrated at the full time whistle, securing a first win at the Cae Baker since the JD Cymru Leagues were formed in 2019, as well as their first win of the 2024/25 league season.
