We are delighted to announce that Gresford Athletic have today completed the signing of Paul Johnson from Saltney Town.
This is the fourth signing that Gresford Athletic have made during the 2022/23 summer transfer window.
The midfielder started his career at Holywell Town as a youth player, before moving to Flint Town United in 2011.
After a four-year spell at Flint Town United, Paul signed for Rhydymwyn for the 2014/15 season, until he joined Saltney Town, where he solidified himself as a top player for the club over six seasons.
The 27-year-old had two short stints at Upton AA and Prestatyn Town, before returning to Saltney Town in January 2022.
He made 20 appearances for Prestatyn Town during the 2021/22 season, scoring two goals, as well as 11 league appearances for Saltney Town, providing two assists, with the club finishing in eighth place in the 2021/22 Lock Stock Ardal North West table.
Gresford Athletic First Team Manager Eddie Maurice-Jones has been impressed with Paul in previous meetings:
"It is brilliant news to finally secure the signing of Paul Johnson.
Paul has been a standout performer on serval meetings against him and has impressed me every time I have watched him play.
We tried to bring Paul to Gresford Athletic last season, but the timing was not right.
Paul is an honest, committed and very intelligent player, who always makes the right decisions whether that is in or out of possession.
I am confident that Paul will play an important role in what we are aiming to achieve at Gresford Athletic and I look forward to working with him."
Welcome to Gresford Athletic, Paul!
