Both teams suffer defeat

It wasn't a good night for either side last night as they both suffered league defeats.

First up was the reserves who travelled to Ruthin knowing a win would keep their title hopes alive. It was rather a depleted squad due to injury and suspension across both squads (even Mike Gronnow was named in the team!). The lads were excellent first half and Sam Richardson gave them a deserved lead after a number of efforts on goal.

The game turned on its head with 20 minutes to go when a needless red card was correctly shown to Chris Halliwell for kicking out. That gave Ruthin the impetus to push and on they started to put pressure on the Gresford rear guard. A looping shot/cross caught everyone out and James (who had made two brilliant saves earlier on) was not able to keep the effort out. The last 10 minutes were all Ruthin who deservedly ran out 3-1 winners.

The first team still only need a point from their last game against Flint on Saturday to guarantee a best ever 3rd place finish. It looked like they were well on their way last night when Tom Wells scored a cracker to put them 1-0 up against Guilsfield. The home side stepped up though and ran amok in the second half with the final result 5-1.

No game for the reserves Saturday, Gresford travel to Flint with a 2:30pm ko
