Gresford Athletic are delighted to reveal the club's new crest ahead of the 2025/26 season as we continue to evolve, grow and expand the identity and brand of the club.
Over the last few years, the club's Committee have been sporadically discussing the idea of a potential redesign of the Gresford Athletic crest. The club has had three crests since the turn of the century, all with their own designs and unique ways of displaying the club's identity, but it was felt that, 10 years on from the introduction of the current crest and ahead of the club's 10th consecutive year in the second tier of Welsh football, now was the time for a change.
The decision to redesign the club's crest was not one that was taken lightly. Of course, with the continued growth of the JD Cymru Leagues, we wanted a more adaptable, scalable and modern brand to allow us to expand in the current digital age, but we also wanted to ensure that any change was to be done in the right way, with genuine meaning behind it. Despite the club's First Team currently playing football outside of Wrexham, we wanted to embrace the club's roots and increase the connection with our village within our city through utilising the iconic symbolism and rich history of Gresford.
That's when we turned to Retu Creative. Their creativity, precision and incredible attention to detail meant that they were the perfect partners to help us create a crest that truly represents what the club stands for and showcases the proud history and identity of Gresford, as well as Wrexham as a whole.
So, we can now proudly present to you, the new crest of Gresford Athletic Football Club, as seen at the top of this article and across our website and social media platforms.
Let's take a closer look at some of the details...
RECOGNISING THE ALL SAINTS' CHURCH
The shield design, a consistent shape in all of the club's previous crests, takes the form of the windows on the All Saints' Church in Gresford, with the all-white colour also acting as a reference to the club's pre-2010 crest.
REMEMBERING THE MINING HISTORY
Representing the Gresford Colliery Disaster with the Gresford Colliery Memorial wheel displayed at the centre of the crest.
A TRIBUTE TO THE 266
The number "266" is displayed at the bottom of the shield, in memory of the 266 men and boys who lost their lives in the Gresford Colliery Disaster
INCLUSION OF THE GRESFORD BELLS
The original eight Gresford Bells are represented inside the roudel of the crest, continuing to include one of the Seven Wonders of Wales from all of the club's previous crests.
PROUDLY, Y DDRAIG GOCH
The Welsh dragon is adapted in rampant form for the club's proud association to Wales, as consistently shown in all of the club's previous crests.
The new crest will be used throughout the new, fresh club branding, as well as for both the First Team and Under 21s. The crest will also be gradually rolled out throughout the teams in Gresford Athletic Junior Football Club.
Thank you so much to Retu Creative for their outstanding work and for being unbeliveable easy to work with throughout this process. We are delighted with what has come from this project and believe we have developed a brilliant, modern identity for the club, which relates to the village and city that we represent.
Join us as we move forward into the 2025/26 season with a new look, a fresh feel and plenty of immense pride in who we are, what we are and what we do.
Up The Colliers!
