Gresford Athletic progress to the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 Nathaniel MG Cup after beating Buckley Town in the third round on Tuesday.
The game was a proper battle between the two teams, which began with Charley Edge going for goal in the 5th minute from a free-kick, but it was tipped over the crossbar by Ryan Goldston in the Buckley Town net.
Another good Charley Edge free-kick was flicked on by Toby Gallagher-Keenan in the box, but Adam Hesp's sliding effort went just wide in the 26th minute.
Gresford Athletic came really close to finding the opener in the 42nd minute, when some good play between Nathan Williams, Dominic Deacon and Alex Buxton ended by finding Haci Ozlu, whose shot was cleared off the line by The Bucks.
However, just two minutes later, in the 44th minute, Toby Gallagher-Keenan did excellently to play the ball to Haci Ozlu, who brilliantly chipped the ball over Buckley Town's Ryan Goldston and landed in the goal to give Gresford Athletic the lead right before the break.
Buckley Town really pushed for an equalising goal in the second half, but Gresford Athletic were resilient and kept working extremely hard.
In the 51st minute, Charley Edge put a good corner into the box, which found the James Smith, but his header went just over the crossbar.
However, in the 61st minute, Matt Busby was called upon, and pulled off an excellent save to ensure the lead was retained.
Nathan Williams also did superbly by clearing the ball off the line in the 71st minute to deny an almost certain Buckley Town equaliser.
The Bucks kept on plugging and The Colliers kept on absorbing the attacks, defending well and, in the end, reaching the final whistle with a 1-0 win and their name in the hat for the final eight of the 2023/24 Nathaniel MG Cup.
Haci Ozlu was named Gresford Athletic Man of the Match after putting in another good performance and scoring a third goal in his last three games.
