Gresford Athletic earned a big bank holiday win away against Guilsfield on matchday 28 of the 2023/24 JD Cyrmu North on Easter Monday.
The game started with a tough moment for Gresford Athletic, as Haci Ozlu was forced off the pitch with an injury just 12 minutes into the game, with Charlie Mann entering the action to replace him.
However, Charlie Mann got off to an immediate impact, whipping in a good free-kick into the box in the 19th minute, but nobody was there to get on the end of it.
Charlie Mann almost found the opener for Gresford Athletic in the 22nd minute, firing the ball at the goal from the edge of the box, but it was saved by Guilsfield goalkeeper Robbie Williams.
Then, in the 23rd minute, Charlie Mann continued to impress and helped break the deadlock, playing a fantastic ball into the box and finding the head of Joe Chaplin to put it away and give Gresford Athletic the lead.
Alex Buxton looked to extend Gresford Athletic's advantage in the 37th minute, but his powerful strike was well defender by the former Gresford Athletic goalkeeper Robbie Williams.
The whistle blew for half time, with Gresford Athletic in a good position following a good first half performance.
The second half began and Gresford Athletic looked to hold onto their lead, whilst Guilsfield aimed to break through the defence of The Colliers and find an equaliser.
It was a quieter affair for most of the second half, but Guilsfield did look to turn the screw towards the last 20 minutes or so, with Lewis Dutton being called upon in the 74th minute to make a good save.
In the 82nd minute, Nathan Williams looked to find a second goal, crossing the ball into the box well for substitute Callum Mannion to head a shot on goal, but it went wide of the post.
After a flurry of Guilsfield chances, all of which Gresford Athletic threw their bodies on the line to defend, the full time whistle blew and the lads can be proud of a great, hard-working performance to earn three points and a clean sheet.
Charlie Mann was named Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, putting in a fantastic performance and providing the assist for the winning goal.
