Gresford Athletic suffered a bank holiday defeat against Ruthin Town on matchday 27 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North on Friday.
The game started in the worst possible way for Gresford Athletic, as Harry Martin immediately gave Ruthin Town the lead with a goal in the second minute, slotting it home from close-range.
Then, in a disasterous moment for The Colliers, Ruthin Town extended their lead to 2-0, with Kurtis Pearson blasting the ball into the top corner in the fifth minute.
However, Gresford Athletic did not lie down, and in the 25th minute, Haci Ozlu did well to dribble with the ball in the box and fire it into the back of the net to pull one back, with Captain Joshua Griffiths providing the assist.
The teams went in for half time at 2-1, with Gresford Athletic aiming for an equaliser in the second half.
However, the second half proved to be a fairly quiet affair, with no real clear-cut chances.
Gresford Athletic did solidify their defence and tried to find an opening to grab an equaliser, but it did not come.
The most notable bit of action came in added time, when Gresford Athletic Assistant Manager Jonathan Hill-Dunt was shown two yellow cards in a minute for dissent, resulting in him being sent off and receiving a touchline ban for the next game.
The game ended 2-1 and Gresford Athletic can feel frustrated with letting two early goals slip through the net and suffering a home defeat.
Haci Ozlu was voted as Gresford Athletic Man of the Match for scoring the only Gresford Athletic goal of the game and putting in a good performance, despite the result.
