Gresford Athletic earn an important away win against Llanidloes Town

Gresford Athletic returned to winning ways on Friday night, beating Llanidloes Town away on matchday 21 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North.

The game began with both sides battling well, but neither having any real clear-cut chances.

The first chance of the game fell to Gresford Athletic, with Charley Edge standing over a free kick in the 7th minute, but his strike was saved by Llanidloes Town goalkeeper Luke Evans

Llanidloes Town could have argued that they had the better of the first half, but it was Gresford Athletic who broke the deadlock as Charley Edge got onto the end of a Haci Ozlu cross to put the ball into the back of the net and make it 1-0 just before the half time whistle in added time.

The second half consisted of Gresford Athletic keeping hold of their lead and ensuring control of the game.

Jordan Pownall almost found his first goal for the club in the 50th minute, with his header and follow-up shot both being saved.

in the 72nd minute, Charley Edge had another good effort from a free-kick, but his angled attempt whistled past the post.

Gresford Athletic managed to find a second goal through substitute Toby Gallagher-Keenan's first-time effort from a rebounded corner in the 76th minute, putting The Colliers in a good position to see out the game and earn all three points.

Joe Chaplin almost made it three for Gresford Athletic, but his 77th-minute strike was well saved by Llanidloes Town's Luke Evans.

In the 84th minute, Charlie Mann was next to have a chance after Simon Smith played him through on goal, but his shot went just wide.

Luke Evans in the Llanidloes Town net made another great save right before the full time whistle, again denying a Joe Chaplin chance after he was played through on goal superbly in the 91st minute.

The whistle blew and the game concluded with Gresford Athletic delighted to earn an important three points, as well as keep a clean sheet away from home.

Haci Ozlu was voted as Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, after putting in a good performance to help secure an important victory.
