Gresford Athletic earn a massive three points on the road

Gresford Athletic managed to complete a full comeback to beat Denbigh Town away on matchday 25 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North on Tuesday.

The game started with Gresford Athletic being let off with a warning, as Denbigh Town's free-kick was pinged off the woodwork in the 23rd minute.

Gresford Athletic did have chances of their own, though, and Haci Ozlu had a good effort in the 27th minute, but Denbigh Town goalkeeper Aaron Jones made the save.

Then, in the 28th minute, Denbigh Town found a way through and took the lead, with Josh Lock placing the ball into the bottom corner.

However, Gresford Athletic refused to lie down and kept pushing for an equaliser, which was rewarded in the 41st minute when Charley Edge fired a free-kick into the top corner of the net to equalise just before half time.

The second half started well for Gresford Athletic, with Haci Ozlu doing brilliantly to keep the ball in play and lay it off to Paul Johnson, who has a shot on goal, but Denbigh Town's Aaron Jones collected the ball.

Despite a good start, Gresford Athletic do fall behind again, with Denbigh Town's Owen Davies slamming the ball into the bakc of the net to regain the lad in the 54th minute.

Eddie Maurice-Jones and Jonathan Hill-Dunt did not wait around and in the 61st minute, Gresford Athletic made FIVE changes, which went on to prove to be a masterstroke.

Substitute Callum Mannion bagged his first goal in a Gresford Athletic shirt with a cool finish following a Toby Gallagher-Keenan pass in the 67th minute to find the equaliser with plenty of time on the clock.

Then, a few minutes later, substitute Joe Chaplin did brilliantly well and fired the ball into the net in the 73rd minute for Gresford Athletic to take the lead in the game for the first time, with Charlie Mann playing the ball beautifully to provide the assist.

Gresford Athletic held on for almost 20 minutes before Adam Hesp's 89th-minute diving header on the end of a Charley Edge free-kick added a fourth to the scoreline, leaving no doubt that the three points would be coming home with The Colliers.

However, just to top things off, Alex Buxton played the ball to Joe Chaplin, who produced a great finish to grab his second and Gresford Athletic's fifth goal of the game in the fourth minute of added time.

The whistle blew for full time and Gresford Athletic have a right to be proud of their huge spirit and fight to come back and earn a more than deserved win away from home.

Charley Edge was voted as Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, putting in a superb performance and scoring another free-kick for the first goal.
