Gresford Athletic made it six without a win after losing to Caersws

Gresford Athletic suffered their fifth loss in six games when they lost to Caersws at home on matchday 13 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North on Saturday.

It was a tough start for Gresford Athletic as Caersws took an early lead in the 10th minute through Craig Williams directly from an angled free-kick.

Gresford Athletic looked to fight back and found their equaliser in the 29th minute, with Charlie Mann doing superbly well to keep hold of the ball and play it through to Toby Gallagher-Keenan, who placed the ball past Caersws' Steffan Jones on the right-hand side.

Despite the equaliser from The Colliers, Caersws continued to put the pressure on and scored their second goal of the game from another set-piece, this time Captain Harry Cottam getting the goal from a header in the 39th minute.

Gresford Athletic had their opportunity to equalise for a second time just three minutes later, after Haci Ozlu was pulled down in the box and was awarded a penalty. However, he stepped up and looked to score down the left, but Caersws goalkeeper Steffan Jones dived the right way and made the save to retain their lead.

Just before half time, in the third minute of added time, Simon Smith played a short corner to Charlie Mann, who whipped the ball into the box, but Nathan Williams' header was blocked in the box and the half time whistle blew shortly after, with The Bluebirds in the lead.

Gresford Athletic needed to find something to force an equalising goal in the second half, but Caersws were determined to add to their advantage and were through on goal in the 55th minute, but Mike Jones was there to make the save from the shot.

Then, Caersws' sustained pressure was rewarded when they grabbed their third goal of the game after a mistake in the Gresford Athletic defence allowed Sam Phillips to take the ball around Mike Jones in goal and run it into an open net.

The Colliers had to try everything they could to get back into the game and in the 75th minute, a superb ball is played was played forward towards substitute Robert Reynolds, who brought the ball down and crossed it into the box, but nobody was there to put it away.

Robert Reynolds then came extremely close to finding Gresford Athletic's second goal of the game in the 84th minute, aiming for the top right corner from a header, but Caersws' Steffan Jones made another good save.

Right before the end of the game, in the 93rd minute, three consecutive Gresford Athletic efforts somehow do not manage to find the back of the net, but Caersws put everything on the line to ensure their 3-1 lead kept intact as the full time whistle blew.

Toby Gallagher-Keenan was voted as Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, after he put in a good performance and scored The Colliers' only goal of the game.
