The first Wrexham Derby of the season was a stalemate as Gresford Athletic drew 0-0 away against Chirk AAA on matchday 11 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North on Sunday.

The game began with both teams battling early on, with Simon Smith's 17th-minute effort from the edge of the area being an early highlight for Gresford Athletic, but it was saved by Oliver Farebrother in the Chirk AAA goal.

Chirk AAA definitely had their chances in the first half, with Gresford Athletic being let off with a warning in the 19th minute after a shot from the home team following a one-on-one with Mike Jones went wide.

Joe Chaplin did some good work down the left-hand side in the 34th minute and pulled the ball back into the box and into the path of Nathan Williams, but his first-time effort was wide of the net.

In the 38th minute, Haci Ozlu put in a great cross along the face of the goal and found Charley Edge, but Chirk AAA's Oliver Farebrother made another save to deny the close-range shot, which meant that the score remained 0-0 at half time.

Gresford Athletic looked to find their rhythm and score the opener in the second half, with a couple of big chances coming in the 66th minute, coming firstly from Adam Hesp, which was blocked well, and then the follow-up from Charley Edge was blasted wide.

Gresford Athletic continued to knock on the door, as Charley Edge put in a good corner in the 68th minute, finding substitute Harvey Ellis, whose shot went way over the crossbar.

Substitute Toby Gallagher-Keenan played the ball into the box in the 75th minute, which was headed back out to Simon Smith, but his shot was wide of the goal.

It was almost the winner for Gresford Athletic late on, as Tom Killilea's header was so close to going in, but it was denied by the crossbar.

Then, in the 94th minute of the game, James Smith flew forward and blasted the ball towards goal, but it was another save by Chirk AAA's Oliver Farebrother and the game ended at 0-0, with neither team able to find a breakthrough.

Tom Killilea was the Man of the Match for Gresford Athletic, putting in a good performance on his first competitive start for the First Team.
