MATCH REPORT | Gresford Athletic 1-2 Denbigh Town | 2023/24 JD Cymru North, Matchday 10

Gresford Athletic are beaten by a penalty and an extremely late winning goal against Denbigh Town at home on matchday 10 of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North.

The game started with a couple of early chances for Denbigh Town, with the best chance coming from Joshua Lock's 12th-minute effort firing over the crossbar.

However, it was Gresford Athletic who opened the scoring, with Haci Ozlu heading in a good cross from Joe Chaplin to score his ninth goal of the 2023/24 season in the 17th minute.

Simon Smith then looked to make it two goals for Gresford Athletic in the 33rd minute, but his effort from 18 yards out went over the bar.

In the 44th minute, a handball in the box led to Denbigh Town being awarded a penalty, which Nathan Brown converted well to make it 1-1 right before half time.

The second half was a competitive 45 mintues, starting with former Gresford Athletic player Tom Weir having an effort in the 49th minute, but it fired over the crossbar.

Mike Jones was called upon in the 66th minute, making a good save to deny a Denbigh Town effort from Joshua Lock in a one-on-one.

In the 75th minute, Haci Ozlu aimed for his second goal of the game, but he saw Denbigh Town goalkeeper Aaron Jones make the save.

Gresford Athletic almost manage to find a winner in the 88th minute, with Joe Chaplin putting the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for a tight offside and it looked a draw would certainly be the outcome.

However, it was heartbreak for Gresford Athletic, as Denbigh Town's Tom Weir manages to grab the winner for Denbigh Town in the 91st minute, just minutes after Joe Chaplin's offside goal.

The game ended with a 2-1 home defeat to Denbigh Town through a devastating late, late winner.

Haci Ozlu was voted as Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, who had a great performance and scored the opening goal.
