Gresford Athletic made it six wins on the bounce in all competitions when they beat Buckley Town 2-1 at home with two late, late goals on matchday eight of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North on Wednesday night.

The competitive game began with a decent chance for Gresford Athletic, when Simon Smith played the ball forward to Haci Ozlu, who managed to strike it from an angle, but it was saved by Buckley Town goalkeeper Ryan Goldston.

In the 21st minute, Charley Edge had his first of many good free-kicks, putting the ball into a good area, but nobody was there to pick up the ball in the box.

Charley Edge then had a great effort in the 29th minute, testing Ryan Goldston in the Buckley Town goal, but it was parried away and the score remained level.

Haci Ozlu was next to have an attack, nicking the ball from a Buckley Town defender in the 31st minute, but his shot went narrowly wide of the post and the score at half time stayed at 0-0.

The second half began with a scramble in the Buckley Town box in the 46th minute, but nobody was able to find a way through and get the ball into the net.

However, Buckley Town managed to take the lead through Adam Smith, who striked the ball into the bottom corner in the 52nd minute after being played through on goal.

Gresford Athletic looked to quickly respond, with Dominic Deacon finding himself through on goal in the 54th minute, but his shot was saved by Buckley Town's Ryan Goldston.

The majority of the second half was a big battle between the two sides, Gresford Athletic continously looking to find an equaliser and Buckley Town holding onto their 1-0 lead.

In the second minute of added time at the end of the game, substitute Charlie Mann did well to get the ball in the box, but Haci Ozlu's effort went over the crossbar.

However, late into added time, in the 95th minute, Harvey Ellis marked his substitute appearance with a fantastic equalising goal, taking a touch on the edge of the box and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

Then, unbelievably, Charley Edge lined up for a free-kick in the 99th minute and perfectly placed the ball into the top corner to complete a full comeback for Gresford Athletic and secure a crucial three points.

The final score was 2-1 to Gresford Athletic, which fired them into the top seven of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North table and continued their superb run of form over the last six games.

Charley Edge was named Gresford Athletic Man of the Match, putting in a great shift and scoring the winner with his fantastic, late free-kick.
