Gresford Athletic are in cup action in midweek away against Ruthin Town in the quarter-finals of the Macron NEWFA Men's Senior Challenge Cup on Tuesday.

Gresford Athletic will play against Ruthin Town tonight, Tuesday 16th April 2024, with kick off at 7:30pm.

THE OPPOSITION

Ruthin Town are sat in seventh place of the 2023/24 JD Cymru North table after picking up some good form over the last few weeks.

They have claimed wins against Prestatyn Town, Bangor 1876, Llanidloes Town, Denbigh Town, Porthmadog, Chirk AA and a massive 5-4 victory against Llandudno. They also recently beat Llanidloes Town, Gresford Athletic and then Prestatyn Town again. However, they have been beaten 12 times, in which most came during a tough run between the end of September and December 2023 that saw them defeated by Airbus UK Broughton, Guilsfield, Buckley Town, Llandudno, Holywell Town and Denbigh Town.

In cup competitions, The Town were stopped by Bala Town in round two after beating Llandudno in the first round of the 2023/24 Nathaniel MG Cup. They also beat Porthmadog Welsh Blood Service League Cup, but Prestatyn Town beat them on penalties in the second round, and a tough draw against The New Saints saw them exit the JD Welsh Cup in the early stages. However, in the Macron NEWFA Men's Senior Challenge Cup, Ruthin Town now face Gresford Athletic after a massive 7-0 away win against Llay Miners Welfare in the previous round.

HEAD TO HEAD

Since the start of the JD Cymru Leagues in 2019, Gresford Athletic and Ruthin Town have played eachother nine times, which has seen the Colliers win four times and The Town win three times.

Gresford Athletic have won in every home game against Ruthin Town until the 2023/24 season and a 3-2 win in the semi-finals of the Macron NEWFA Men's Senior Challenge Cup saw The Colliers progress in the competition during the 2022/23 season.

Ruthin Town are the team to have most recently beat the other side, running out as 2-1 winners at The Rock last month in the 2023/24 JD Cymru North. They have also claimed victories in both home games during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
